This unit examines some of the current important issues in international health. It provides an overview of health problems and inequities between and within countries of the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean region. These are examined from an epidemiological perspective, including the environmental, demographic, political, and economic determinants of disease, the cultural meanings of health and illness, including definitions of illness, the sick role, status differences between patients and practitioners. The responses of government, non-government and international organisations to health problems and challenges facing the world in the next decades will be examined. -- Course Website
